During 2004 Commercial Salmon season we provided 140 slush ice bags to commercial
fishermen on the Kuskokwim river fishery for their use at no charge. A total of 390
salmon fishermen recorded landings during the season, all fish were iced and bled, for
a total value of $942,500. This was the seventh summer of operation for our Salmon
Quality Enhancement project, in partnership with Coastal Village Seafoods Inc. We will
continue our operations during 2005.

.....Rural Tourism Development & Marketing
During 2005 we are promoting rural tourism marketing, in partnership with 4 regional
villages, the City of Bethel and the Alaska Dept of Commerce, Community and
Economic Development, Office of Economic Development. We are planning a local
informational conference and a promotional visit for members of the visitor industry to
our area. A Vista volunteer contracted to the City of Bethel will develop tour packaging
and assist in marketing strategies.

.....Regional Strategy Update
Through the development and circulation of a written and verbal survey in 2005, we
will update the Lower Kuskokwim Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy,
throughout the 26 village region including Bethel.

.....Ikaiyurluki Neqsurteput - Helping Our Fisherman
Through the support of the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority, we will provide
subsidized fuel, oil and gear to local Yup'ik and other commercial salmon fishermen
who have suffered from chronic alcoholism or are developmentally disabled,
supporting their ability to participate effectively during the fishing seasons and provide
support to themselves and their family members.
